Week #1:
The rains
continued hard and heavy through the first week of October,
creating the biggest flood we have had since we started guiding 6 years
ago. The ATV trails were fast becoming rivers themselves, so
getting around became a challenge. Our season had been fully
booked, but a last minute cancellation created an opening for the
guy I floated the Italio alone with the previous season and his friend
Jim. With just the two of them in camp, it was a huge relief
under the circumstances and we caught more fish than they had ever
seen. Since John and I had been hit by a hard storm during our
float trip, we dubbed this the Tweddale Curse (which continued
into the 2005 season as well for the float I did with Jim even though
John didn't come. We still blamed him!) and I'm looking forward to
seeing just how wet we get when John and Jim arrive in early September
2006...

I don't know that it ever stopped raining the entire time they were
here! The novelty of my new digital camera was wearing off,
so you can see how few photos I was taking by this time. The
important ones to capture of course were the reddest fish of the whole
season... With so much idle time for Pat, he and our
part-time guide and expert duck man spent most of their days harassing
the poor defenseless waterfowl.
Week
#2:
Almost the
moment John and Jim boarded their plane, the clouds parted.
The rains subsided, but not after pushing nearly every single fish
up into the upper reaches of the tributaries and into every flooded
meadow. Our renowned October run was starting to look like a bust
as the water began to drop. Gradually as the second week
progressed and the rivers returned to their normal levels, the
fish began to stack up in their regular haunts.

Week
#3:
The fish
were back and the weather was great. Not a single bug
remained, so it was a wonderful ending to a rollercoaster of a
silver season.

This plane
officially brought our 2004 season to a close, leaving the Italio
for just me and the family to play on. Tanis and I made the most
of our private playground (as we always do...)

Thanks for
looking through our season and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I
enjoyed living it. Come on up and live it with us next time. - Bob
