Thank you so much for the adventure of a lifetime.  You have a beautiful state and I feel fortunate to have been able to experience it with my friends and family and two excellent guides.  I had a great time.  Thanks for all your hard work.  Great food too!

Thank you for putting together an awesome adventure for us.  It was tough but well worth it at the end.  I had a great time and I don’t think I’ll ever catch so many fish in my life.

Bob & Pat,

WOW!  YAKUTAT RULES!  That was the coolest trip I have ever been on and it would not have been if it were not for you guys.  I have never seen such incredible things.  You guys are really awesome and I hope I make it back soon.  Thanks for everything.

Charter_SEAN AND TWIN.jpg (84536 bytes)Bobbage and Pat the best cook,

Yaku-what? That’s what I thought until you two showed me the best time of my life.  I can not thank you guys enough for what you did.  You guys are the best guides and the trip was pretty much perfect.  Good luck to you and I hope to see you back in Alaska sometime and maybe even in Sacramento.

Muchos Gracias,  Sean - Sacramento,  California

Pretty much perfect?  Well Sean,  we pretty much enjoyed having you!

  8/20/2001

I have always believed that life should be a series of adventures threaded together by transactions between people who have shared that experience.  At times one is fortunate enough to briefly arrive at a place that allows sufficient perspective to see that the treads are really a part of a tapestry that tells a life’s story.  The Italio is such a place.  Here Chelsea,  Pat and I shared a series of adventures that have made our lives richer.  From floating the Dangerous,  4-wheelering down the beach to camp,  fishing the New Italio,  exploring the trails and sharing great food we have shared a window of wonder.  For this I am a better person with a renewed sense of appreciation for friends and adventures yet to come.

Thanks,  Larry - Spokane,  Washington

8/20/2001

This trip was a bunch of firsts for me:  first time at a fishing camp,  first time near so few people,  first time to ride a 4-wheeler,  first time to catch a chum salmon…  and it has been a great,  fulfilling adventure.  It has been the most memorable of vacations I’ve had,  and I hope to return again someday to try surfing (which will be a first),  the kayaking (a first),  and to catch a bundle more fish (maybe I’ll get to catch my first king salmon!).  I certainly learned a lot on this trip,  too.  Good luck in business and hopefully I’ll be back soon.  Enjoy your wilderness!

Chelsea - Spokane,  Washington

Brad_fishing3.jpg (33088 bytes)9/4/01

WOW!  Silvers,  surf,  and Mt Fairweather.  Fairweather indeed,  ours was perfect.  This has got to be one of Alaska’s best kept secrets.  I know you guys don’t want it to remain too big a secret,  but I hope it does for a little while longer.  Over the internet I had a hunch you guys knew what you were doing,  and that has certainly proved true.  You have exceeded all our expectations.  You got Aaron_fishing2.jpg (33911 bytes) this food thing down!  Well,  its on to the rest of Alaska,  this will be hard to beat.  We wish you and your families well.

Thanks for making a father and son’s dream come true.

Happy trails,  Brad and Aaron – Ashland,  Kentucky

tom_1.jpg (18997 bytes)9/7/01

Bob & Pat,

First of all,  thanks for watching over us this last week and for the weather reports – I know that you didn’t have to do that for us.  It was very appreciated!  We had a couple of experiences that reminded me that this is still a wild and inhospitable land.  Folks like you guys and your families made it hospitable and this was greatly appreciated!  Best of luck in your new business.  I will recommend you to everyone I hear is coming to visit Alaska.  I hope to return one day for the full treatment.  You helped make my first visit an adventure to remember!

Thank you again,  Tom - Lincoln,  Nebraska

brett2.jpg (34678 bytes)Pat & Bob,

Your hospitality was wonderful.  Thank you for watching over us.  Our tent camp location was wonderful.  I was born and raised in Alaska and last night was reminded how each decision we make,  it may be the most important.  We made a BAD decision last night and paid for it by spending a long wet night on a beach.  We did not compound it by further bad decisions.  That same morning a private party next to us made a poor decision and it cost a life.  As great as this camp and setting is,  we are only a ½ step away from our own worst enemy – ourselves.  My trip has reminded me to be prepared and to think through my decisions!  And yes I will be back.  I wish you the best in this venture.

Thank you,  Brett – Salt Lake City,  Utah

Tom and Brett pup-tent camped on the Italio this year during our worst storms of the season.  They were well prepared and had a great time,  but were witnesses and participants in the worst tragedy the Italio has seen in nearly a decade.  Four people rented a private cabin near their camp and chose to all load into a canoe on a swollen river above a tight turn.  It flipped and one of the people died.  This is a wild and unforgiving wilderness,  where good judgment can mean life,  or death.  Tom and Brett found the survivors marooned on the wrong side of the Italio and then went for help.  Tom and Brett are true adventurers,  who sacrificed much of themselves and their vacation to help others.

Don't even think about coming to the Italio if you don't take the time to prepare for and learn about the Alaskan wilderness.  If you don't have the common sense to understand exactly what this means,  for God sakes don't ever leave your house!  Tom and Brett,  you are always welcome here.

fishing3.jpg (77610 bytes)9/?/01

Having such a great time.  I don’t know what day it is anymore!  We had not 1,  but 2 clear sunny days before the rain set in.  The view of the mountain range was unbelievable and the sunsets spectacular.  The glacier & icebergs – WOW!  And the kayaking was so much fun.  All this before we even started fishing!  I have to say I have never experienced fishing like this – you have spoiled me for fishing anywhere else and now I’ll have to come back.  I think I can talk my husband into it.  Now,  some may complain about the weather – but I enjoyed the storms too.  All in all – one of the most exciting vacations I have ever had.  Thank you for fun times,  the fishing,  the food,  the weather…  and most of all,  for moving the bears elsewhere for the duration!!  You guys rock!

Karen  - Mercer Island,  Washington

P.S.  Love your dogs – Rhett,  Emma & Jenna are the best.

Well – plans change – and we got stuck here another 2 days.  I had to fish another 2 days.  Would you be upset if I prayed for bad weather/fog so I get stuck another 2 days?  Caught a fish so big I broke my rod!  What an awesome vacation! – Karen

Karen and Co.  became stranded a couple extra days following the WTC attacks.  With all US airspace closed,  even the bush planes couldn't fly.  We would have been able to get them to Yakutat via ATV's and jet-boats,  but we all chose to keep fishing instead,  until they were rebooked on the next open Alaska Airlines flight four days later.  I couldn't imagine a better group of people to be with during such a difficult time.  Thank you Rob,  Karen,  Todd,  Anna,  Bob,  Shirley and Don!

AnnaTanis.jpg (23990 bytes)Bob,  Pat,  Teen and Tanis,

Thank you for a trip I’ll never forget!  The first day,  seeing bears galore (from the comfort of a car) was thrilling – won’t say where we saw them!?!  Then,  kayaking through beautiful waterways exploring animal trails to view the surf on an incredible,  totally clear day – boating through icebergs to Yakutat Glacier – WOW!!  I never dreamed icebergs were really as blue and beautiful and BIG as they are.  I didn’t think the first 2 days could be topped but getting to camp,  climbing the sand dunes to see the 360° view with Mt. St. Elias and Fairweather – WOW,  unbelievable!  It’s a good thing you have few days like that or this place would be like Miami,  FL,  packed.  The best thing about your place is the hospitality of its owners.  I felt like I was with my family.  I was at home here.  You all have special talents and that,  along with the care you show to each and every guest,  this will definitely be a successful business and always a welcome place for people to do whatever they want.  I can’t wait to come back and share the beauty of your home and visit with you all again.  Thank you,  thank you,  thank you for reminding me what is really important.

Anna (the non-fisher) - Kirkland,  Washington

P.S.  Thanks for the “Tanis time” – he’s great!!

Pat & Jenna – Thanks so much for surfing where I never expected to surf!  What fun

old_shirley2.jpg (50087 bytes)We found our little bit of heaven.  The scenic environment only surpassed by the fabulous fishing.  The good Lord in his graciousness has put together the perfect combination of intelligence,  humor,  and knowledge in our guides.  God bless you all for the memorable times – kayaking,  fishing,  glacier iceberg trip and our 45th anniversary celebration.  Thanks again for your patience with first time fly fishermen – Shirley caught her first salmon!!!!

Shirley & Bob – Tillamook,  Oregon

fishing7.jpg (26854 bytes)Words can not do justice to the emotions I feel upon leaving.  The fishing,  kayaking in the bay,  boating through the ice flow,  long walks,  laughter and friendship.  These are secondary to the real breakthrough my wife and I had.  For the first time in ten years we were able to combine her passion for the outdoors with my passion for fishing!  I will relive this week many times to come.  Thank you for opening your hearts & camp.

Todd – Kirkland,  Washington

fishing5.jpg (28430 bytes)9/10-9/17/01

This is the week our country was attacked.  I was blessed to be with the Seattle crew,  the Italio crew (Pat,  Bob,  Teen & Tanis).  It again showed me the resolve of people in our country,  working together and supporting one an other.  This is the week to be remembered.

Bob:  It was by sheer luck that I decided to attend the Pleasanton,  CA sport show.  Pat:  While talking to you over the past year,  I decided to try the Italio River.  You guys presented the actual facts,  no frill.  The straight facts.  I am honored to be one of your first clients.

I have fished in ALASKA for over 10 years.  I have fished & hunted in some fine areas.  I think I am going to stop looking.  The good Lord willing I plan to return many more times.

Pat:  Special thanks to you for putting up with me for a full week.  Its just too bad we could not get along HA HA HA!!!  Looking forward to seeing you in SAC this winter.

Great trip
Thanks
Your friend,  Don – Livermore,  California

Q.  How was fishing?
A.  A BUNCH.

Thank you for a wonderful fishing/outdoor experience.  Everything was great from food to the surfing.  I was most impressed with the quality of the people running the show,  and your enthusiasm and eagerness to make sure that we had the best time in every way.  The fly-fishing was without a doubt the best I have ever seen.  Thank you for everything,  hope to see you again soon.

Tyler – Las Vegas,  Nevada

bob1.jpg (31512 bytes)Pat and Bob

I would also like to thank you for a fantastic fishing adventure!  Your hospitality and friendship made the trip even better.  The food was wonderful,  the scenery incredible and the fishing better than all I have done.  I’m probably spoiled now and must come back.  No one will believe you can corral fish.

Bob – Las Vegas,  Nevada

Thank you for the trip that I’ve always wanted to take my son on.  He enjoyed the fishing,  the surfing and the food.  I loved watching him and the company of owners.  Pat & Bob you guys put on the best show including great weather and sunsets.  The fishing,  the bear tracks and the wade through the New Italio was the best.  We’ll be back.

I wish you all the luck with your lodge.  You deserve it.

Steve – Las Vegas,  Nevada

Well,  we usually charge extra for sunsets.  Just don't let the Forest Service hear you calling us a "lodge".  Remember we are just a tent camp!  :-)

9/23/01

Pat & Bob –

WOW!  What a fantastic time!!  I want to thank you both for the super hospitality.  The fishing was awesome – even this clod-hopper from Texas was able to catch a bunch!  Watching the morning sunrise over the snow-capped mountains from atop the sand dunes,  with the ocean surf roaring behind me is a memorable treasure that I will never forget.  Mother Nature certainly blessed this scenic place – and because of your hard work & enthusiasm for it – made it available for me & others to fully enjoy!

Thanks for everything!  Good luck and God bless.

Spencer – Graham,  Texas

Remember Spence,  if they split Alaska in half,  Texas would only be the third largest state...

EricDucks1.jpg (21177 bytes)Well Bob & Pat,  I sure had a great time!  Five fish in five casts at the mouth of the river is the best fishing I have ever done.  You showed me the way and left me alone to become one with the fish.  What a blast.  Catch and release is the only way to go.  You guys are great people.  I look forward to next year.

Eric – Unalaska,  Wisconsin

"Become one with the fish"?  Isn't there a law against that sort of thing?

jeff2.jpg (32473 bytes)Bob,  Pat & Jenna,

WOW what a camp.  We couldn’t of had it better.  The fish,  food and friends were and are the best.  Bob & Pat you’re the best.  Your camp is the best,  the one liners can’t be quoted.  Fun was had by all.  Thanks for the great time,  best wishes for your camp and best wishes for family.

Jeff – St.  George,  Utah

Can't be quoted?  How about "Who's the big prick that turned off the hot water?" - Nort

nort1.jpg (30064 bytes)Pat,  Bob & crew

I’m not sure when the “awe” will wear off.  Thanks for the great time and your unique hospitality.  Great accommodations,  great food,  great company and last but not least,  great fishing!!  I’m looking forward to bringing my son-in-law next year and letting him share this great experience.  Thanks again for everything and remember to keep the “hot water” flowing!

Respectfully,  Nort – St George,  Utah

With a group of practical jokers,  I really accidentally shut off the water while poor Nort was in the shower.  He was pretty pissed at his "friends" when I sheepishly admitted to doing it.  Boy,  he was more embarrassed than I was,  when he realized it wasn't sabotage from his group.

rand1.jpg (21802 bytes)To Bob & Pat

Thanks for the best fishing trip ever.

Thanks,  Rand – St.  George,  Utah

A man of little words now,  but during the trip...  Yes,  the lake IS above the river and since you are the only one catching fish,  keep using the fly that you have on!

tom8.jpg (35677 bytes)9/28/01

To Pat & Bob

This is really beginning to sound redundant.  “WOW what a great place”.  “WOW what great food”.  “WOW what great fishing”.  You guys need to be smacked back down to reality.  The problem is it is all true,  and then some.  So just like everyone else has said WOW!  This truly is the best trip ever for me.  Don’t let your heads get too big!  Just kidding…  See ya next year.

Tom – Las Vegas,  Nevada

If I find your pliers in the river again,  can I keep 'em?

neil3.jpg (23778 bytes)Sept.  28,  2001

Bob “a.k.a. Big Prick” & Pat “a.k.a.  Hot Nuts”

These men born of horny nights tried to keep their fires lit and cabins warm.  There are none bolder or stronger than their spirits at the Italio River Adventures.  The maid services and cooking are next to none “Chicago Times” *****.  The guide skills will come with time and after that you will not only be able to catch your limit,  but everyone else’s.  We were so delighted to help you develop your technique of releasing fish.  Remember the lake is above the river!

greg1.jpg (23634 bytes)            If a client is catching too many fish and asks what are the non catching fishermen are using so he can change to that fly,  don’t stop him!!

As pro guides ourselves and have visited many fishing locations and accommodations,  we have found the Italio to be the best “New York Post” *****!!!

Thanks we felt at home,  Neil and Greg – St.  George,  Utah

OK,  you still have the award for our weirdest clients of the year.

Chucknfish.jpg (46366 bytes)Great trip:  loads of silvers,  wildlife (wolves,  moose),  duck huntin’,  kamikaze  scenic flight (barf bags included).  I especially recommend to future guests the tour of Yakutat’s local bear habitat & the deep-sea surfing overnighter.  Iceberg gunning foray also not to be missed.  Super food,  super beds,  super hosts,  super trips.  Will be back next year!

Thanks,  Chuck – Tennessee

Just don't let us take you surfing in October again!
