Bob
and Pat's History
Italio River Adventures is owned and operated solely by the Miller and
Robbins families. We have witnessed amazing changes to the area,
from the dramatic and deadly earthquake of 1958, to the Akwe River
break through. This land is constantly changing, growing and
evolving. Every single season brings an entirely new experience.
At the same time, we are extremely protective of our wilderness.
We have spent our lives here and we intend to make sure this land stays
as beautiful tomorrow, as it is today.
The
commercial fishing industry first brought Pat and the Robbins family to
Yakutat in 1971. They built their family's home on Dry Bay,
the mouth of the mighty Alsek River. Pat spent most of his life
working and playing all along the Yakutat Foreland. His family of
five help with day to day operation of the Italio River Adventures
facility.
My
family first came to Yakutat in 1956. As a marine radio repairman,
my grandfather worked, hunted and fished the area for many
decades. The Italio had been closed to commercial fishing for over
a decade, when my father showed interest in having it reopened.
In the early 1970's, he built the cabin I still call home.
As a four year old, growing up on the Italio River beach was a
wonderful experience. Together, with my two sisters,
the Miller family built a life that many people only dream about.
Now, with my own young family, I am helping my son to carry
on the traditions for a fourth generation, on the Italio River.
As
adventure tourism guides, Pat and I are blessed to be able to
share this place with others for a living. Our clients become a
part of our family, as we cater to a select few groups each
season. At Italio River Adventures, we offer a very
personalized level of service that you won't find anywhere else.
Call, or e-mail us, even if it is just to chat about your
own adventures.
