Policies and Restrictions
Deposits and Holding Reservations:
Once you decide you are ready to book a trip,
you'll need to put a deposit down to hold your week. 12 months
ahead of your trip, we require a 10% deposit to hold your booking.
By the first of January the year of travel, we need a total of 50%
down with 100% down by 60 days prior to your arrival on the Italio.
If you are interested in a week that is more than
12 months away, we can add you to a waiting list for that week
with no deposit required. Returning clients have first right of
refusal for the same week each year and if they choose not to put down a
10% deposit at the end of their trip, that week becomes available
for the first person on the waiting list.
Cancellations and Refunds:
Italio River Adventures does not give refunds
under any circumstances. Your deposit is intended to hold your
booking, so it is available for you and no one else.
Essentially, you are buying that week, whether you show up,
or not. If you must cancel your trip and give us adequate notice
(more than 90 days) AND we are able to fill your week with another
group, we will apply 100% of your deposit to the following year.
This policy is not negotiable and giving Italio River Adventures a
deposit means you understand that there is no refund, no matter
what the circumstances. If you can not make your week and would
like to change to another open week for the same season, we will
be happy to do this. Be advised that our season is usually
completely full and there is little flexibility to change weeks after
the first of the year.
We highly recommend that you purchase Travel
Insurance. Travel Insurance is very inexpensive, yet is
designed for exactly this sort of situation. Many credit card
policies have built in Travel Insurance, so paying deposits with
your card can be a smart idea. Call your credit card company and
ask about their coverage. Never assume you are covered, or
that your trip will be problem free.
Weather, Wildlife Availability and Fish
Run Strength:
Italio River Adventures operates in a wild and
unpredictable environment. Few weather forecasts are correct in
our area, making it difficult to predict how your trip will go.
If weather prevents the air charter, or Alaska Airlines from
flying you to your destination and you are required to stay in Yakutat,
or another city, you will be required to bare these additional
costs yourself. Italio River Adventures is not responsible for
conditions we can not directly control. If your arrival is delayed
because of airline mechanical problems, etc., you may be
able to receive some compensation from the airline, however Travel
Insurance is still your best defense for all situations like this.
We make best possible predictions for run strength
and peaks based on past experiences and Alaska Department of Fish and
Game information. Unfortunately, salmon, waterfowl and
other wild animals don't run in a predictable way. Italio River
Adventures makes no guarantees for your fishing, or hunting
success.
Alcohol, Drugs and Tobacco:
Italio River Adventures is a family owned and
operated business. We do not cater to, or encourage
inappropriate abuse of dangerous substances. We do not provide
alcohol as part of our service. If you would like to bring
alcoholic beverages for your personal consumption, it is up to
you. Our policy is that there will be no boating, ATV
riding, or flying while under the influence of alcohol. We
are located in a wild and often dangerous environment and clear judgment
is a necessity. If you feel you must drink before, or while
fishing you certainly may. Understand however, that you will
be on your own and are accepting the risks and responsibilities in this.
The Italio is hundreds of miles from the nearest
hospital. If you become injured because of a lapse of judgment,
you are likely to be in very serious jeopardy. Drinking at the
camp is perfectly safe (within reason) and appropriate.
Excessive drinking, belligerence and socially inappropriate
behavior will result in the cancellation of your stay with Italio River
Adventures. The air charter will be called at the next possible
opportunity and you will be taken to the Yakutat Airport. At that
point, all responsibility for you will be yours and you will not
be entitled to any refund, or credit.
Illegal drug use will not be tolerated at all and
will also result in your removal to Yakutat. Whenever possible,
we will arrange for law enforcement officials to meet your returning
flight. You will not be entitled to any refund, or credit
with Italio River Adventures.
We are a non-smoking facility, although you
are welcome to smoke outside, or on our covered porches. As
a smoker, you are responsible for ensuring that non-smoking
guests, visitors and employees of Italio River Adventures are not
exposed to second hand smoke. YOU will move downwind and protect
others from the dangers of tobacco smoke. If you use smokeless
tobacco products, you will not use them inside any building,
nor will you spit on porches, boardwalks, boats,
trailers, or equipment. Funny that I would even have to type
this sort of thing up... Also see "Litter".
Litter:
This area of the world is a pristine wilderness,
free of litter and garbage. We intend to keep it that way.
You will pack all garbage and litter back to the camp, or give it
to your guide to take back. If you see litter, pick it up,
or give it to your guide. This includes old fishing line,
lures and cigarette butts. It is unacceptable to leave a cigarette
butt out in the wilderness and you will bring every one you use back to
the camp for proper disposal.
ADF & G Regulations:
Alaska Department of Fish and Game rules and
regulations will be strictly followed. You will never exceed your
daily, or possession bag limits for any species and you will
release all fish caught unlawfully. Snagging is prohibited,
along with the taking of King Salmon without the additional King
sticker. You are responsible for knowing and following the
regulations. They are available through the ADF
& G web site, or a printed copy will be available at the
camp.
You must buy your sporting licenses before coming
and have them on you at all times while engaged in fishing, or
hunting activities. You can buy Alaska State licenses,
stickers and stamps at the Yakutat Lodge, right next door to the
Alaska Airlines terminal, or online through the ADF
& G web site. Federal duck stamps are available at any US
Post Office.
Taking Your Catch Home:
You are welcome to take your catch home with you,
providing it does not exceed the possession limit, or a total of
eight per person (all species). We can freeze them for you,
vak-pak, or alder smoke them (can take three days, or more
to smoke). Processing for shipment does not remove them from the
possession limitations and they still count toward your eight fish.
If you ask us to cook your fish for you, we will be happy to and
this is the only way to actually remove a fish from your
"possession".
Fishing Equipment:
Italio River Adventures does not rent, or
provide you with your fishing gear. You must bring your own,
or make arrangements ahead of time. We do have a small supply of
gear and can loan it to you for emergency use only. If you break
your rod, or if the airline loses it, this constitutes an
emergency. If you break, or lose our rod and gear, you
will pay for its full retail replacement value.
