John Fork Dolly2.jpg (150553 bytes)Trout and Char

We have both resident and sea-run populations of Dolly Varden,  Rainbow and Cutthroat in our lakes and streams.  The Dolly Varden Char is easily identified by its bright pink polka-dot sides and can weigh as much as 6 to 8 pounds.  They will bite most flies and they are a nice addition to our diverse fishing opportunities.  They behave and taste very similar to trout,  but have a more voracious appetite.  Dollies primarily follow the salmon into the rivers in the spring,  looking for eggs and feeding on smolt.  On the Italio Float,  we'll often pass through schools of hundreds of smaller char,  while many nice sized adults mix in with the salmon,  or trail behind the schools waiting for those errant eggs to tumble by.

Middle Cutthroat5.jpg (109030 bytes)Cutthroat and Rainbows are found in our streams and lakes,  with nearly year 'round availability.  The larger rivers have sustainable populations that are great fun to catch and enjoy.  Our more isolated system of lakes provide an endless variety of challenge and opportunity.  Some of our lakes in the Yakutat Foreland have to this day never been fished.  Virtually all others see a visitor no more than every few years.  If you are looking for a true wilderness adventure, deep into an unspoiled land,  Italio River Adventures can take you where no human has been.

The New and Middle Italio Rivers have Cutthroat and Rainbows throughout.  Cutthroat reach up to 14 inches,  while our non-steelhead Rainbows top out in the 18 inch range.  Whether you just want a break from fighting endless salmon,  or a sea-run Cut is on your agenda,  the sprawling Italio System gives you unmatched variety of species and water.
